Torch Tales LLC | Live-Action Role Play.
History.
The first larps were run in the late 1970s, inspired by role-playing games and genre fiction. The activity gained international popularity during the 1980s, and has diversified into a wide variety of styles.
Origin.
Growing up in England and studying theater and acting from the age of 5, I enjoyed the world of performing arts. Continuing my studies to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree: Drama with Actor Training and Creative Writing. During this time I also attended DofE (Duke of Edinburgh) which is an intensive outdoor training exercise; with days of navigating and camping in the British countryside - in and around areas of the Seven Sisters. I was also fortunate to be a volunteer at local theaters and schools teaching workshops.
Start.
All of these elements collided when I started larping - Live-Action Role Play. Elements of socializing, improv acting, cosplay, pervasive gaming, combat, magic, imagination, creativity and so much more. After larping for some time I was able to transfer my in-game experiences into real world situations and opportunities. For example - in-game trading elements helped me become a better salesperson and become more personable. Supporting maintaining contacts and relationships across many other people and characters. Another example is being in a group working together and supporting individuals’ goals and the group’s goals at the same time. This can transfer into many careers across multiple industries.
Move.
Fast forward to now. After moving to the USA in 2019 and the world shutting down, I found myself starting anew and looking for the same comradery I once knew. Having looked around at multiple larps and a huge list of groups and whatnot I found myself looking for something bigger and in a similar style. But what I found was a noticeable gap in the USA larp community. I could not find many, if any, larps that brought together young people and families. After having grown up in and around this amazing and unique experience and having children of my own, I wanted to create something that brought all of these ideas to life.
Build.
Torch Tales LLC and The Torch Tales LARP System set out to bring together the best elements of larp to young people and families. Starting with an easy introduction to all things larp. Bringing all the knowledge and skills together to create an endless story that highlights the player characters within it. Set in a fictional world and explored in line with the Torch Tales game handbook. Players are set to explore many themes and situations that will harden their characters and teach them so much more.
Make.
Having a system that is designed to be ever changing and growing much like the players, having endless opportunity. With that in mind there are so many different factors to the game inside and out. Torch Tales Larp is there for all and is excited for all to enjoy.
